I have played on the RB1 drums, GHWT drum set, and this one. While I am not an elite drummer by any means from what I have personally seen these are the best of the 3.
These drums are cordless. HUGE factor for us allowing us to set them anywhere in the room and never worry if our kids will trip over the cord. We have been to several friends houses that have the corded drum sets and it is a constant battle to keep the kids from tripping over the wires. Tripping would not be good for the kid or the equipment obviously so they are ever vigilant... lucky for us this RB2 set does not have that issue.
They work great on RB1 and GHWT as well. So no issue with being compatible.
Hit detection. I really can not compare this to the other 2 drum sets since I have never had an issue with any of them in hit detection. Perhaps others have had more experience here but so far they have been great. I have had only an issue with having to constantly calibrate the drums and guitars to the TV but that is an issue with the game and not this equipment.
The final thing I cared about here was for the price of these darn drums, I wanted something to last. So far in my 9 months with the drums, they have held up great and we play almost every day. I have had no issues at all with them and highly recommend them to anyone that wants to play RB1, RB2, GHWT, or other similar games with drums.

I enjoy this game very much. The drum section actually has a tutorial that helps you learn to play on a real set. It gives you beats and fills to practice. You can also play along to your own music, which wasn't on the first game.

Had to give the kit 5 stars as I have absolutely no complaints. I bought the set about 3 months ago and it has survived my punishing drumming ever since. It is a bit pricey, but since I skipped Rock Band 1 altogether I needed a new a drum kit and decided to get the new and improved Rock Band 2 kit instead of opting for the cheaper predecessor, the RB1 model.
In my brief experience playing a friend's Rock Band 1 drums, I noticed how obnoxiously loud they were, something that is significantly improved with the Rock Band 2 drums. The RB2 drum set is wireless allowing for the user to place it wherever they like. I also feel that the RB2 kit is more accurate than the original, meaning that it responds to every note I hit when I hit it in a song (I wasn't so sure that some notes I missed during RB1 songs were entirely my fault).
Overall, the RB2 kit allows Rock Band gamers to take the game to a new level of enjoyment. I find that it never gets boring and offers a break as well as a challenge from the sometimes mundane guitar playing. It is much more similar to playing a real drum kit than playing a rock band guitar is to playing a real guitar, which I believe enhances the experience even further. I don't see how any fan of Rock Band could be disappointed in purchasing the Rock Band 2 drum kit.

The new drum kit is awesome. If anyone has spend anytime with Rock Band drums then you know the pedal needed to be improved. Well the new metal pedal was the right answer. The metal pedal & wireless connectivity make this set a must have!!
